Oculus Rift VR Simulator Great For Adult Games.
Virtual reality demonstrations at CES this year for the Oculus Rift, have been the talk of the town.
Epic Games announced plans for the virtual reality version of their Unreal Engine 4 and a VR demo for the rest of us.
"We were tossing around a bunch of different engine names," Boyd Multerer, a principal programmer and manager for the company, told Mashable.
"And 'Unreal' really fit because this is really awesome."
Oculus showed off a demo by Epic games at the show that used the company's Unreal 3 engine to power it. There's a melee battle with soldiers and a mech strafing run with a tank.
"At this point we don't have something shipping yet so we're not calling it the Unreal Engine 3.5, but it very much uses a lot of the same underlying technology and rendering techniques that will be in the 3.5," Multerer said.
Speaking with Engadget, Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey said that the Rift is less like a console and more like a tool.
"The Rift is not a virtual reality console," he said.
"Every owner of the Oculus Rift will be able to develop games and experiences for it, that will be sold through the Oculus Store."
The Oculus Rift is currently available on Kickstarter with various developers signed on.
